Denim Fit: The Portola Taper
The Portola is a brand new fit to our offering, named after the Governor of California who led the first land expeditions from San Diego to San Francisco in the 1700s. It is a classic taper developed for those with athletic legs who still want a slim denim. We started with the Rios fit and added room to the top block by increasing the rise and opening up the thigh. We then tapered this new block to the same slim opening found in the Rios.
The Portola is made in a 13 ounce Japanese broken twill made custom for Freenote with antique gold selvedge ticking. It is a great middle of the road weight and is the original cowboy denim of choice. We pride ourselves on subtle details such as the selvedge detail hidden in the coin pocket, as well as 1/8" double needle accents throughout with 10-12 stitches per inch sewing. This is the first time using buffalo leather for the back patch. All of our denim labels are made of the same leather used in Red Wing Boots from SB Tannery. We are the only clothing brand approved to use this leather.
