Much better than I hoped and perfect fit!

I just received my Riders jacket in charcoal and am very, very impressed.
First off, I would not describe this as a charcoal gray. it definitely has a bluish/greenish tint to it so I would call it slate gray/blue. I actually prefer this to a plain gray.
As soon as I put it on it immediately melted onto my body like a fine leather jacket with years of wear. The body and sleeve lining is extremely soft and comfortable. As for fit I am 5' 9 1/2" and 176 lbs with broader shoulders and always fall in between medium and large in most shirts and jackets. I went with the reviews that say it runs slightly small and ordered a large which fits perfect. I was concerned about the sleeves being too long but with a medium weight flannel underneath they are the perfect length. I like that the chest pockets don't have a flap and the hand pockets are nice and roomy. The Rider looks and feels like an expensive suede leather jacket.
Now that I know my size I am waiting for a restock so I can grab another color. My only regret is that I waited so long.

Incredible jacket

I'm 180lbs and 6'0, and the medium fits like a glove. Incredibly solid construction and the details are phenomenal, right down to the buttons and selected lining. You should size up if you intend to layer. I feel like I was between sizes, but ultimately glad I went with the medium for lighter weather outsider where I don't need to layer. I intend to purchase a large for those occasions where I need to wear a flannel or sweater. The best feature is how the jacket hugs you shoulders (there's an elastic feel to the shoulders where they ultimately conform to your body shape). 10/10 happy with purchase.

Doesn't Get Much Better

The Riders Jacket's form and functionality really are hard to beat. Construction is superb and I really like how the Charcoal canvas makes it kinda seem like a faded denim jean jacket at a distance yet distinct in its own right from other brands and the other Freenote canvases close up, especially with these smooth almost glossy dark grey buttons. I layer up with this design, especially with zip hoodies. 180 lbs 6'2" 40" chest with an XL as the last ~fourth covering.

Sublime

Heavier than a jean jacket, and just boxy enough in the chest to allow a quilted layer underneath, this jacket is simply amazing. Out of the box I could feel the wackiness a bit in humid conditions but I know that’ll pass with time and wear. And wear it I will! Full of gorgeous details, but made to rumble, I am so happy with this piece. The gray mode looks about out, so I wouldn’t sleep on any colorways that come available and catch your eye!

Awesome quality and hues

If you're looking for a jacket that you can wear day-in and day-out in a chilly climate, this is it! I have had similar jackets made of waxed canvas that were unlined, so my biggest complaint of having basically no insulation is taken care of here. The inner lining is made of satin, cool to the touch but warm when you wear it. The outer material is waxed canvas, but it also has a smooth, almost velvety texture.

I think charcoal is an OK description for the color – to my eyes, it's more of a mix of blue/green/gray, so take that as you will. I bought this jacket as I preferred this color to something like pure gray. The inner lining of warm orange/yellow hues really contrast with the outer material and looks great. Overall, the color in the online pictures are accurate, and I would highly recommend this jacket!

We are excited to offer two new colors of our most popular jacket, the Waxed Canvas Riders Jacket. Both the Rust and Charcoal versions are made of water resistant 10.10 ounce Martexin waxed canvas. This is the same USA made waxed canvas that we use in our classic Tobacco and Oak Riders Jackets. For the liner, we used a limited edition colorway of our signature southwestern print. Due to the limited nature of this liner, the Rust and Charcoal Riders Jackets are limited to 40 examples each.

The Riders Jacket, or RJ-1 for short, was one of the first jackets we ever designed. It is a unique mix of a classic ranch jacket combined with a riding jacket. The front pleats expand with movement along with the shoulder gussets in the back. Construction highlights include 1/8” stitch details and custom metal hardware made exclusively for Freenote Cloth. The RJ-1 is equipped with our signature action back for added mobility. Hidden elastic bands in the interior of the jacket help keep the shoulder gussets in place and allow for ease of movement in this heavy piece. In addition, the sleeves are lined with a cotton/rayon blend to make the jacket easier to put on and take off.
