About the Portola Classic Taper 17 ounce Indigo Denim

The latest addition to the Freenote Denim line is our 17 ounce Indigo Denim. Custom made for us by our friends at Yoshiwa Mills in Japan, this is the indigo twin of our 17 ounce Black Denim. The denim is incredibly durable and features a slubby texture that will yield a beautiful patina through repeated wear. In addition to the typical fade patterns of raw denim, the slub yarns help create textured vertical fading as well. While the weight and rugged feel of the denim may be intimidating at first, the fabric breaks in relatively quickly, resulting in a pant that feels both soft and sturdy. For the final touch of customization, the selvedge ID is our signature antique gold, a nod to the golden age of denim manufacturing when every denim brand had a unique selvedge ticker. Woven exclusively for Freenote Cloth, the 17 ounce Indigo Denim is available in our Avila, Portola, and Belford fits. Proudly cut and sewn in Los Angeles, CA.

    Great denim, awful pocket bags

Absolutely incredible denim with a great fit and construction, unfortunately the fabric they chose for the pocket bags on last years run ruins they jeans entirely. I purchased these around November of last year, and have worn them around 80-100 days, the pocket bags have needed several repairs in that time, and now have completely separated from the outer pocket rendering the jeans useless in less than 100 wears. Never experienced anything like it from other high end denim brands. Super disappointing to see a great pant ruined by poor fabric choice. Hoping they make the necessary changes going forward because they are some incredible pants otherwise.

    Fantastic Jeans

These jeans have quickly become my favorite in my closet. They have a ton of character, particularly after a wash or soak. I can see the vertical fades developing as advertised, and they have softened dramatically since I first got them to an ideal comfort level. Sometimes I catch myself admiring the color gradient in the slubby texture. I do put them away when the warmer months roll around, but I'm already looking forward to the fall when I can comfortably wear them again.
