Introducing the newest piece of Freenote outerwear: the Teamster Vest. The inspiration for this vest is equal parts workwear and outdoorsman gear. The back pockets are a nod to game pockets typically found on hunting jackets, while the overall style and rugged construction takes cues from classic American workwear. Despite the lack of sleeves, this piece requires as much time and skill to construct as some of our most complicated jacket patterns. We created this vest to be just as comfortable as it is hardwearing, with soft and warm sherpa lining and a timeless textile exterior that has a proven track record of improving with wear.
The exterior of the vest is a 13 ounce Bedford cord, a.k.a. Jungle Cloth, that was woven in Japan. This is the same material found on U.S. Navy N-1 Deck Jackets. We have used Jungle Cloth on a number of garments over the years, and keep coming back to it due to its durability and propensity to age well. Much like selvedge denim, although stiff when new, it breaks in, softens, and patinas beautifully with wear. The interior is lined with a 50/50 alpaca and wool blend that is both soft and warm. The front hand warmer pockets feature the same lining for additional comfort in cold climates. We also sourced heavy-duty zippers from Universal in Japan. And for the final touch, we had custom Freenote branded snap buttons made by hardware experts YKK Manufacturing. Like all Freenote clothing, the Teamster Vest is proudly cut and sewn in Los Angeles.
