About the Faro Jacket Tobacco Heavy Waxed Canvas

The Faro is Freenote’s interpretation of a classic ranch jacket. The fit is slightly cropped with extra room in the chest and shoulders. Paired with a pleated body and zippered front, the Faro is a tough work jacket with a subtle western influence. This version is built to endure the cold, featuring a heavyweight 20 Ounce Waxed Canvas and custom 11 ounce Japanese flannel lining. Design details include Freenote’s own concho rivets, Japanese "Universal" reproduction zippers, and patch on pockets with side-entry flannel-lined hand warming pockets. Proudly cut and sewn in Los Angeles, California.

This might be my new favorite jacket. The 20oz waxed canvas has incredible structure to it. I've always appreciated a jacket with a nice lining; you don't see that kind of thing very often these days. This jacket's thick flannel lining adds some insulation, and is a really nice visual detail as well. The outer pockets have proven to be very practical; I wear this jacket to work (photo/grip work) and find the pockets are ideal for holding small tools like box cutters, pencils, a leatherman, etc. In my experience, this type of pocket doesn't work as well with thinner/flimsier fabrics, but the rigidity of the 20oz waxed canvas and the snap closures keep items secure in place.

As for its warmth, I would say this jacket is ideal in 40-55 degree weather. The fabric is thick, yes, but the collar being unlined waxed canvas can chill the neck a bit in really cold weather. The cropped waist, while good for working, is obviously going to provide a little less insulation. Not that these are negative qualities to the piece. Freenote is really making some excellent outerwear.
