About the Portola Classic Taper 17 ounce Indigo Denim

Introducing our 17 ounce Indigo Denim. Custom made for us by our friends at Yoshiwa Mills in Japan, this is the indigo twin of our 17 ounce Black Denim. The denim is incredibly durable and features a slubby texture that will yield a beautiful patina through repeated wear. In addition to the typical fade patterns of raw denim, the slub yarns help create textured vertical fading as well. While the weight and rugged feel of the denim may be intimidating at first, the fabric breaks in relatively quickly, resulting in a pant that feels both soft and sturdy. For the final touch of customization, the selvedge ID is our signature antique gold, a nod to the golden age of denim manufacturing when every denim brand had a unique selvedge ticker. Woven exclusively for Freenote Cloth, the 17 ounce Indigo Denim is available in our Avila, Rios, Trabuco, Wilkes, Portola, and Belford fits. Proudly cut and sewn in Los Angeles, CA.

Indigo tone is amazing, overall fit is good, not perfect (for me)

I bought a 33 and 34 and keeping them both--the 33's were worn/broken in for one month until the 34's came in, still a bit tight when kneeling down, but the waist did stretch about an inch, fades already noticeable. 34's are perfect, fitting identically to the Wilkes 33's I bought last year. The waist sizing on this cut is different than the Wilkes (sort of expect some variation but purchased two other pairs in trabuco and now portola, 33's are consistently different to the Wilkes). In love the dark indigo and these are NOT too heavy at all. I do think the back rise on the Portola is about an inch short--would be perfect if they fixed that (when kneeling down, hopefully your shirt is tucked in or covering b/c the back rise drops a lot).

Also just bought a rider wax canvas--looking forward to see how it performs. Looks great.

    Fantastic Jeans

These jeans have quickly become my favorite in my closet. They have a ton of character, particularly after a wash or soak. I can see the vertical fades developing as advertised, and they have softened dramatically since I first got them to an ideal comfort level. Sometimes I catch myself admiring the color gradient in the slubby texture. I do put them away when the warmer months roll around, but I'm already looking forward to the fall when I can comfortably wear them again.
