I am a 74 year old, 5'8" 160 and somehow was able to track a medium down in NYC, At my age one really stops spending money on clothes but after I saw this jacket a few years ago, I knew I would eventually own one! Im very active and this jacket will be along for the ride!!

This jacket might outlast my cast iron skillet

I've been eyeing out this jacket since I first saw it on Kayce Dutton in Yellowstone. Sold out everywhere - and for a good reason. Ended up snagging it from Revolvr (great customer service, strongly recommend) right before it sold out again. Now that I have it, I don't foresee any other jacket of mine seeing the light of day.

I am 5-8, 140 lbs with decently wide shoulders and got a Medium which fits me like a glove and leaves room to layer under. If you appreciate attention to detail, every single design element of this jacket will scintillate your corneas. A few things to point out that make me extra happy:

1. The shoulder gussets. I had the Flint & Tinder Waxed Trucker before this and due to the rigid nature of waxed canvas, I noticed that my range of motion in my arms felt a bit constricted. The shoulder gussets make this jacket insanely comfortable for all day wear.

2. The satin liner on the arms. At first, I was expecting the same Japanese flannel that lines the body to extend through the arms. What I love about the satin is how easily my arms glide into this jacket every time I throw it on. Especially when layering, it's amazing.

3. The dark copper buttons. Not only do they elevate the look of the jacket, but they protrude out just the right amount. This is important because it makes it so that when I button my jacket to close it up, each button goes into the jacket holes effortlessly. My Flint & Tinder buttons were practically flush with the fabric and it was a pain in the ass to button up.

I live in Salt Lake City and it is full on winter right now. With a flannel underneath, I will be using this all winter. Come Spring and Fall, this will be the perfect jacket with a t shirt under it.

Other than that, this jacket is truly a masterful creation. The construction, the waxed canvas material, the swaggersome southwestern print on the inside, everything about it. If I wake up to a Zombie apocalypse, this is the jacket I'm taking with me. If you see one in stock your size, buy it. I did and it sold it shortly after. Thank you Freenote Cloth for making such a well thought product. I wish more companies like you existed.

Best Waxed Jacket Out There

I’d been eyeing this jacket for a long time and unfortunately, it’s always sold out on this site and everywhere else too. I was able to find it in my size from Hep Cat Store in Sweden and paid more for it than here stateside and have to say, it’s worth every penny. I have an I&R Scout, Rambler, and a Flint & Tinder Waxed Trucker… and while they’re all great jackets, they’re nowhere near as awesome as the Rider. The quality, craftsmanship, and fit of this jacket is amazing. Best jacket I own and it will last a lifetime. If you’re reading this and it’s available on this site, BUY IT NOW. you likely won’t have the chance to tomorrow because it’ll be sold out again and you definitely won’t be sorry.

Best Jacket I’ve Owned

Before I get into how much I love this jacket I want to express my satisfaction at the incredible customer service at Freenote. The owner Andrew is one of the kindest and most helpful individuals I have come across. They run one heck of an operation and have really blessed their customers with that small business=personal service approach. Now regarding the Riders Jacket: This is hands down the best and my favorite jacket I’ve ever owned. Some might balk at the $400 price tag, but the second it’s in your hands you’ll understand why it’s worth every cent. The materials and quality of stitching show this company puts every emphasis on attention to detail. You can buy a cheap jacket 10 times or buy this one 1 time and enjoy it for a lifetime. It’s comfortable, warm, and durable. It does need some breaking in but the break in period shouldn’t be more than a few wears. I’m beyond excited to try some of their other products. One note: I serendipitously discovered the jacket is a little darker than what’s in the photos. Maybe a tint or two darker brown. Absolutely gorgeous and something I’m excited to have hanging in my closet for years to come.

The Riders Jacket, or RJ-1 for short, was one of the first jackets we ever designed. It is a unique mix of a classic ranch jacket combined with a riding jacket. The front pleats expand with movement along with the shoulder gussets in the back. Construction highlights include 1/8” stitch details and custom metal hardware made exclusively for Freenote Cloth. The RJ-1 is equipped with our signature action back for added mobility. Hidden elastic bands in the interior of the jacket help keep the shoulder gussets in place and allow for ease of movement in this heavy piece. In addition, the sleeves are lined with a cotton/rayon blend to make the jacket easier to put on and take off.

We built this jacket for the long haul using the most resilient materials and durable construction methods. With each wear, it will get more comfortable as it molds to your body, creating a custom fit. It will develop a unique patina as the wax is displaced in high wear areas, a sartorial chronicle of the adventures you’ll have in it. Like everything we make at Freenote Cloth, the Riders Jacket is built to last.
